I wanted to follow up on my previous entry with this title...
Someone was apparently offended by the speaker's remarks of, "it is an honor and privilidge to serve the Jesus I see in my Muslim brothers." The speaker and I were chatting when he approached us and interrupted our conversation to voice his opinion of the speaker's remarks being totally wrong. I was kind of caught off guard by the whole thing, as I am used to people keeping their mouth shut in church and just talking behind each other's backs afterwards. I was both shocked that he did that and excited because of the courage to come forward, because there were others who were just as offended by the statement that didn't say anything. The speaker, however was not at all caught off guard. His response was, "tell me this: if you were in Africa and a starving child came up to you, what would you do, given only one choice....offer him/her food or tell him/her about Jesus?" Without hesitation the man said, "well, tell 'em about Jesus, of course! That's the great commission!" The speaker calmly said, "I'd give him/her food."
I was immediately reminded of a quote I read a while back from Mahatma Gandhi, which I personally believe to be absolutely true. There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread
...just some thoughts from all this that have been continually reminding me to check myself.
