you WON'T be disappointed! The song below is "Albertine," which is the title track from her record. It is the name of a girl she met in Rwanda while doing some work there. Listen to the words, folks.
please visit my buddy Ty's blog and respond to his question. I would greatly appreciate it, especially from you guys in other parts of the country doing things slightly different related to the label of "church."
Every now and then a movie comes along that is touted as the one movie that is going to bring about great change. It is the movie that will bring revival in the Church, and/or draw many to Christ. Rarely do they deliver in such a manner. Soon to be released is a movie that if it receives a wide enough distribution, just might have some of the aforementioned affects.
Lord, Save Us From Your Followers is a provocative, yet highly entertaining documentary that follows in the tradition of movies like Super Size Me and others. It's a movie that both calls the Church to love and live like Christ, as well as one that makes an apologetic statement to society for the way we as the Church have done a better job at being divisive, as opposed to unifying, in the way we have portrayed the gospel. The movie is slated to hit theatres next month (June 13th I believe), but if you can't wait, you can download it for 7 bucks. I've seen several of the short film snippets on the movie website, and I can say that I am very interested in seeing this.
The book has been released for a while, and is available most places. Check it out and let me know your thoughts...
So, I get to work today, and what is about six feet outside of my office? A stinkin' rattlesnake. I am completely MORTIFIED of snakes in general, venomous or not. I have no preference. The one pictured here is not the actual snake, for that would require me to get extremely close for this kind of shot.
I had to pray to God that the stroke I thought I had would have no lasting effects.
I wanted to follow up on my previous entry with this title...
Someone was apparently offended by the speaker's remarks of, "it is an honor and privilidge to serve the Jesus I see in my Muslim brothers." The speaker and I were chatting when he approached us and interrupted our conversation to voice his opinion of the speaker's remarks being totally wrong. I was kind of caught off guard by the whole thing, as I am used to people keeping their mouth shut in church and just talking behind each other's backs afterwards. I was both shocked that he did that and excited because of the courage to come forward, because there were others who were just as offended by the statement that didn't say anything. The speaker, however was not at all caught off guard. His response was, "tell me this: if you were in Africa and a starving child came up to you, what would you do, given only one choice....offer him/her food or tell him/her about Jesus?" Without hesitation the man said, "well, tell 'em about Jesus, of course! That's the great commission!" The speaker calmly said, "I'd give him/her food."
I was immediately reminded of a quote I read a while back from Mahatma Gandhi, which I personally believe to be absolutely true.
There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread
...just some thoughts from all this that have been continually reminding me to check myself.
journeying....sometimes aimlessly it seems....but journeying nonetheless
i am husband to April, father of Russ (our wiener dog) and often a screw-up. i work at a christian treatment center in AZ for young men and women struggling with eating disorders. i oversee the chapel services there, and get the privilege to lead worship everyday there. i try to closely follow Jesus. usually, i end up straggling behind at a substantial distance, which of course makes me, well, normal...
